Account locked, how do I unlock it?

I recently changed my email address on one of my other accounts, when confirming the email I received the following message: This link is no longer valid. Either your account has already been activated or the link expired after 24 hours. To unlock and activate your account, please reset your password.
Assumed it was accepted.
Today I get the following: Your account is locked because you did not validate your email within 24 hours. Please reset your password.
But when I reset the password I get the same message again "Your account is locked because you did not validate your email within 24 hours. Please reset your password."
I am in a endless loop!!!

how do I get out of it?
