Homer Internet Throttled?

When I check between 7 and 8.30 PM, my speed is around 30 Mbps instead of 120 mbps. Anyone having a similar issue?

It's cable internet ,it's called Congestion:) Rogers cable in Ottawa is same.

How much did you pay for your 120M Fizz plan? $40? It's amazing price.

Well my speed is capped at 30M. It is a weird congestion :) Yes, I was paying $55 to Videotron for 500gb with 60M speed. Now it is 120M unlimited for $40. I can get used to a 1-hour congestion at 30M. But what if it went worse?

But there shouldn't be congestion yet during the early part of Fizz beta internet services.
.
My internet is with videotron (120mb), and even with multiple devices connected in my house at the moment, and my own cheap router, I'm getting 50mb down on the 6yo laptop I'm currently using. If I test with a hard wired computer, I generally get at least 100mb down.

I usually get 130M and am generally happy. I just do not wanna have a problem in the future. Mobile service issues kind of scare me.

I'm waiting for an invite for home internet. Maybe it was better I didn't get one til it was ready.

I do not wanna alarm anyone about the quality of the home internet service. I am quite happy with it so far. Compared to the mobile service, it is superb. I am mostly curious if this speed loss issue affects anyone else. Yet, even at 30mbps it is stable and good.

There is literally no throttling on Videotron’s cable service - as far as I’ve experienced anyway. I have 120/20 and I can do a Speedtest at any time and always get the theoretical maximum speed.

The congestion issue is why I don't like cable internet. When you only get slow downs at prime internet use times and full speed otherwise, it's usually due to congestion.

I doubt you will get much satisfaction from this the responses to this thread because probably nobody else in your neighbourhood is both using Fizz and active on the forum. It's probably even a long shot that anyone else in your neighbourhood is using Fizz at this point. But that doesn't matter because it's all the same cable lines for both Fizz and Videotron so your congestion issues can easily come from Videotron customers and not Fizz. The only way you can potentially pin it on Fizz is by saying that you had no issues as a Videotron customer and started experiencing the congestion as soon as you made the switch. Even then, it's probably not an issue they can or will fix because it's most likely due to a local traffic management policy that favours Videotron customers over Fizz when usage gets heavy, and this makes good sense given the price and branding differences.

Even so, there's no harm in raising a complaint with Fizz just so they are aware you are not thrilled with how your internet access is performing at prime time. If they do have a local traffic shaping policy in place that is specifically slowing you down to 30 Mbps then there's always a chance they will reduce the extent of the throttling to make you happy. Don't hold your breath for a full 120 Mbps though.

As an aside, I find the combination of the typo in the title (Homer internet) and the bicycle with donut wheels icon very amusing.

I would imagine a bit of throttling is a bit expected for that price. For me that would be OK as long as it is stable. Stability is super important.

The internet speed measure is not always accurate.
It may fluctuate because of the network itself or because of the server that you're using.
You may want to test with different servers to see if the result is consistent
