Why does Fizz claim its older iPhones are under warranty when Apple says they aren't?

I bought an iPhone 7, new, from Fizz that has a motherboard issue. The Apple store where I went to get it fixed pulled up the serial number that showed the purchase date was in 2016 and said it was out of warranty. I showed them the invoice from Fizz that said it was eligible for a limited warranty and they said it didn't matter. Now I have to buy a box from Canada Post to return this phone in. It's a total lemon, I got no support from Apple and a generic response from Fizz and I am so disappointed in the whole experience of buying my phone from Fizz. (Also the Apple store employee kind of threw shade on me for being a Fizz client so that was nice).
