Answered question

What is your data billing measure unit ?

Hi Fizz,

i wonder what is your data billing measure unit ?
because I believe you unfairly overcharge our data usage.

let me be clear.
I do have an app which specifically measure my data usage (in\out) to give me a clear picture about how much data i consume per month, per week or per day.

your measure are much larger than laid out by the app. i have even turn on data plan only on specific usage to monitor your method, so i come with this : we are being charge per-megabyte !

what does it mean ?
if I check my email thru my app (let's say Gmail) and i didnt receive any messages nor send anything : the few packets transmitted will be charged a whopping 1 Mo !

equivalent to the unfair practice per-minute billing for phone calls from some greedy companies (not fizz here)
( ie : 10 seconds = charged 1 min ; 60 seconds = charged 2 min etc..)

So my question is : do you really bill us per megabyte ?
data billing per half megabyte sounds reasonable to me.

any thoughts Fizz users ? anyone monitoring data usage ?
please write down your experience.

looking forward for a Fizz Mod to give me detail !
thx

Hi KingTheod

Are you using Fizz or Fizz Ext? Can make a different in the calculation

If you check on line I believe if you consume 1KB on the daily usage graph they will show 1MB, however, I do not know if in the total calculation is 1KB or 1MB

You cannot test with the gmail app, since you do not know what it does in background, is login in and check only the messages? Is scanning all the folders? It is trying to synchronize the offline folder with the online?

However this is from the service agreement

5.4. Calculating the amount of data used

We calculate the amount of data used in an automated manner. The result of this calculation cannot be contested. Please note the following:

1- The amount of data used outside Quebec is rounded up to the next ten kilobytes for each use. For example, if you download 88kilobytes of data outside Quebec, you will be billed for 90kilobytes.

2- If your services are used through the network of a Fizz partner service provider, the data calculation rules may differ.

3- When you send or receive a message, a photo or any other type of content, our network sometimes has to send additional data or send the same data packet several times to complete the transmission. That may give rise to greater data consumption.

In the My account section, you will find tools to help you track your consumption and manage your usage.

You can always contact the support but I believe that they will give you the service agreement answer

If you would like to contact Fizz, you can Live chat with support from 8 AM to 9 PM every day:

1- Connect to your Fizz account by clicking « Login » in the top right corner at fizz.ca
2- Any ad blockers in your browser should be disabled.
3- Click on one of the help links from the Solution Hub, like this one: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/my-telephone-is-using-an-usual-or-...
4- The green chat bubble should appear after a few seconds in the bottom right corner.

If the chat bubble does not appear, this means that the number of sessions waiting for our answers surpasses our processing capacity. If that happens, send us a private message via Facebook Messenger or Twitter.

KingTheod I don’t think that a Fizz Mod will reply here for you. And for data usage you can find many post with this problem or question. Put data usage on the question above left on this page.

Hi KingTheod

Thank you for sharing your findings. I hope you will get a reply.

I had a quick look at the mobile service agreement, but could not find any mention regarding how blocks of mobile data are measured.

I took a look at my mobile data usage history. All measurements are in MB.

After some investigation, there are some other providers also using MB to measure mobile data usage, and while others are measuring by KB.

hello you can try asking fizz support on the website, facebook messenger or twitter, they have been very helpful!

KingTheod,
Unfortunately this is a hard question to answer as the usage is not in broken down by data activities with a time stamp but only by daily usage.

In phone app data calculator , for me , has proven to be not accurate with any provider I was with. It seem like this is also the case with FIZZ. Also they do have a disclaimer in the legal notes of your data management in the account :

''The method we use to calculate data usage is automated. In case of a disparity between the data displayed on this page and those from other sources (example: your devices) the information presented on this page takes precedence.''

Have a good day
