Answered question

Why does the router lose the WIFI password after power outage?

After setting up the modem tried to connect to the wifi. I had to introduce the password I set for my wifi network.

After a power outage I noticed that the wifi network was unsecured, so, i was able to connect with no password.

I logged in to the modem and the wifi password was set, but still, the wifi network was unsecure.

The only way to fix this is to reset the modem to its factory settings and set a password for the wifi network.

I think there is an issue with the modem, it should not lose the wifi password after a power outage.

What are your thoughts ?

Thanks,
Laszlo

Definitely weird and far from ideal. It's a bug that puts your cyber safety at risk. The only thing I can imagine as a probable cause outside of that is having the power outage at the same unlucky time as the router updates.

Normaly, all router store this type or data on non-volatile memory and not in ram (volatile memory). So it should not happen. Sometime after an update it can wype this partition of data but it's rare. If it happen frequently (you can test by unplung the router form the wall to simulate a power outtage) I suggest you to buy a cheep ups. It's a powerbrick with a battery inside you can find some cheep one from 100-150$. With this you will able to keep the router alive and get wifi even if you have a power ottage unless the battery die... after the power ottage the power will keep alive your things like normally and the UPS will recharge his batery don't worry ;)

I know what a UPS is and what it does, but, I do not see why I should spend 100$-150$ from my pocket for something that a modem should already do ?Would you do that it you were me ? Or would you ask Fizz to change it ?
