How exactly does a whole network go down?

I'd love a technical explanation of how a whole network goes down for such an extended period of time? I'm a former Videotron customer and I can say I never had any problems like this. And, it appears no Videotron customers are having the same issue (according to their social media accounts), so what kind of technical network issue could it be? I get that we are paying less, but the service still needs to be reasonably reliable.

    Then we should be paying Beta prices!. Introductory prices are not that much cheaper than Public mobile or Koodo.

    Network is down for me too. They better fix this soon or they will be losing a lot of new customers.
