Why is my data not working on the iPhone xr?

I was informed that the data won't work on an iPhone 5 so we bought a new iPhone xr with the newest iOS. However, the data still isn't working on this new phone. Can anyone explain to me why?

you can manually update your Carrier Settings. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and go to General > About. If there is an update available and you are connected to the Internet, there will be a prompt for you to update the Carrier Settings.
I’m on an iPhone 6s, and my carrier says “Fizz 35.0”

Update your carrier settings, connect to a wifi network on your iphone and update the software, if that doesn't work you should contact Fizz.

What is the IOS on it? I know Iphone 8 comes with IOS 11 and you have to upgrade. Not sure about Iphone XR though. You can check by going to settings, general, software or software update. If it's IOS 12.1 then doing what M.H. suggested should do the trick.

I’m on a 6s carrier shows “Fizz 35.0”

It works fine in mine. Try forcing a carrier settings upgrade. Open settings, general, about phone. You should get a pop up asking to update carrier settings.

Why i cant update carrier setting? i go on the page “about” and wait but nothing is happening.. my videotron is only 32.0 and i read it should be 34.1.. anyone know how to update carrier setting?
